Pre-Week: Procrastinating, Planning, Plotting and Publicising

Pre-Week(s): Procrastinating, Planning, Publicizing and Panicking

After years of threatening to do this, I have taken the plunge. I still don't know if this is a good idea, but I have signed up for the Warrensburg Community Center's mini-triathlon. This is how it is billed:

WPR & 98.5 The Bar Triathlon
August 7th, 2010
Come challenge yourself with this triumphant triathlon!! This will be a challenging event, but we know you can do it! Each athlete will swim 300 yards, bike eight miles and run three miles. Prizes will be given! Pre-register one week prior to be guaranteed a t-shirt.

Perhaps not surprisingly I am the only one who has signed up yet. The very nice ladies at the desk assure me that people usually sign up closer to the event. I am almost hoping that there will be *no-one* else there (a solo event?) my other hope is that there are hundreds of people (the entire population of Warrensburg would be nice) so I won’t be noticed.

On the plus side I can swim and can at least walk 3 miles. On the downside I have not been on a bike since my age hit double digits.

I have not found anyone crazy enough to actually do this with me, but lots of you have offered support. My biggest need right now is probably to keep me on track (a.k.a. a fairly consistent "so how is it going?").

My progress so far:
Talked myself into this, signed up and sent email to lots of friends - so I don't chicken out.
Made myself get into a swimsuit and the pool and swam 400 yards - did not die of either drowning or embarassment.
Biked two miles on the stationary bike - still need to locate and get on a real bike.

As a "diva" athlete-in-training I'm sure that I will be admired, pampered, and provided with lucrative endorsement contracts. I plan on writing my inspirational memoir in the fall.

Thanks, I'll keep you posted (but feel free to opt out of this list if desired...).
